Taipei, Feb. 10 (CNA) Tainan City in southern Taiwan will offer a series of art and cultural events over the Lunar New Year, filling the city with bustle and excitement, according to the Tainan City Cultural Affairs Bureau. From Feb. 11-24, people in the historic city will be able to participate in an international drum festival, fireworks festival and a 3-D sound and light show, the bureau said. The drum festival, to be held Feb. 11-16 at the city's Eternal Golden Castle, will feature seven percussion groups from Taiwan, the United States, France, South Korea and Japan, it said. Taiwanese Grammy-nominated Ten Drum Art Percussion Group, Japanese drumming groups Nobushi and Pan'a Paname Steel Band from France are among the groups scheduled to perform. A 3-D sound and light show will also be staged in the square in front of City Hall Feb. 12-14. The show, jointly produced by Taiwanese artistic director Serina Chen and Spanish visual artist Franc Aleu, will use projection mapping techniques to project images onto the walls of City Hall. On Feb. 24, the annual Yanshui fireworks festival will feature a 22-meter Taoist divinity that will be used as the launch pad for thousands of rockets and firecrackers. The festival will combine traditional fireworks displays with LED lighting effects, the bureau said. Art exhibitions, cultural and creative activities, dance, music and drama performances by local groups will also be staged throughout the city to usher in the Year of the Snake. (By Christie Chen)
