NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Jury selection has resumed for the Justice Department's case against a former BP drilling engineer charged with deleting text messages and voicemails about the company's response to its massive 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Dozens of potential jurors returned to a New Orleans courtroom Tuesday for a second day of questioning by the federal judge who will preside over Kurt Mix's trial on two counts of obstruction of justice.

One by one, U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval Jr. questioned members of the jury pool privately for several hours Monday. He dismissed some of them for undisclosed reasons and ordered the rest to return Tuesday.

Once a jury is selected, the attorneys will deliver their opening statements. The trial is expected to last up to three weeks.
