Shanghai, Dec. 4 (CNA) China's first matchmaking flight carrying 20 singles looking for romance and a spouse took off from Shanghai Wednesday for Kunming in southwest China's Yunnan province, according to the organizer of the flight, the country's budget carrier Spring Airlines. The 5-hour in-flight matchmaking event attracted 10 male and 10 female participants, with the oldest man aged 39 and the oldest woman aged 25. The oldest woman, Kang Chia-ho, is from Taiwan. Kang, an editor of a movie magazine in Shanghai, said she grew up in Taiwan and studied in the United States since she was a senior high school student. She said she registered for the matchmaking flight to expand her social circle and added that she would not rule out settling in Shanghai if she finds her life partner. Spring Airlines spokesman Zhang Wuan said the idea for the flight came from the airline's employees. He added that 80 percent of its employees are aged under 30. Because of the unsocial working hours of the airline's cabin crews, they usually find it difficult to make new friends, prompting its personnel management division to host matchmaking events for its employees, Zhang noted. The event spurred great interest among young people and attracted a large number of applications, Zhang said, adding that the carrier will hold similar events in the future.
