Taipei, Dec. 9 (CNA) The Taipei City Department of Education said Monday it will establish a team to investigate an alleged bullying case that resulted in a mother posting an ad in a major newspaper to call out her daughter's bully. The team will disclose the results of its preliminary investigation within a week, according to the department. A Taiwanese mother on Sunday placed a half-page ad on the front page of the Chinese-language Liberty Times, naming her teenage daughter's bully and accusing the Taipei Municipal Dunhua Junior High School of failing to intervene in the alleged abuses. The mother said her daughter's classmate verbally abused her daughter repeatedly and suggested that the school might be trying to sweep the issue under the rug because the bully is the son of a teacher at the school. The ad was seen as controversial because it disclosed the full name of the alleged underage bully. The Department of Education said that it has asked the school to speed up its investigation of the case and that the principal of the school has already contacted parents on both sides to ask if any help is needed on Tuesday, when the students will attend school for the first time since the ad appeared. Monday was a deferred holiday at the school. The Sunday ad was titled "a petition letter to Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin" from "a mother with an extremely painful heart." The mayor promised Sunday that the matter would be handled discreetly, but he also expressed the hope that parents could address such issues in a better way that would not cause further harm to their own children and other students.
