Taipei, Dec. 23 (CNA) Turnover in trade and food services looks ready to set a new yearly high for 2013 after November saw an all-time high for the month of NT$1.2 trillion (US$40 billion), a 2.3 percent growth from last year, a senior official said Monday. Yang Kui-hsien, deputy chief of the Department of Statistics under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, said that commercial turnover had reached NT$13.05 trillion by November -- just NT$1.218 trillion short of the record high of NT$14.268 trillion recorded over 2011. Since commercial activity normally heats up as the mercury drops at the end of the year, December sales are likely to exceed those of November, pushing turnover to a new record high, according to Yang. Sales will be boosted by anniversary deals at department stores and promotions by automobile vendors, he said. Wholesale trade in November also grew from last year, up 0.9 percent to NT$837.7 billion, according to the statistics released Monday. Motor vehicles recorded significant growth in wholesale at 18.5 percent, propelled by sales of new automobiles both domestic and imported. On the retail side, November saw a 5.5 percent year-on-year growth to NT$335.9 billion, while sales in food and beverage services increased 4.6 percent to NT$31.3 billion, the statistics showed.
