Taipei, Dec. 24 (CNA) Taiwanese model and actress Lin Chi-ling on Tuesday thanked those who supported her charity calendars in China, which were launched to raise money for the needy there. On her Sina Weibo micro-blogging site, Lin said it is the first time she has released her annual charity calendar in China and things might not have gone perfectly. But "thank you, every friend who supported the calendar," she wrote. Since 2009, Lin has posed for annual calendars and donated the proceeds to needy children and youth in rural Taiwan. She launched the 2014 calendar in China at the end of October to help a Chinese NGO raise money for the construction of a student dormitory in Sichuan Province, and to provide winter clothes for rural Chinese children. All proceeds from the calendar sales will go to charity, said Loic Li, deputy executive director of the Chiling Charity Foundation, which was established in 2011 by the model. He said the foundation wired 500,000 Chinese yuan (US$82,342) a few days ago to the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, a national NGO. Lin's calendars were released in China this year at the request of many Chinese fans, Li told CNA. Meanwhile, close to 26,000 copies of the 2014 calendar have been sold in Taiwan so far and the proceeds will be used to help rural children and youth in Taiwan, he said. The photos on Lin's 2014 calendar were shot in Paris. She has posed in Rome, London and Taiwan for calendars in past years. (By Christie Chen)
