Taipei, Dec. 25 (CNA) A cold surge could start to bring temperatures down across Taiwan from Thursday, with areas as far south as Tainan likely to see daytime lows of 9 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Bureau said Wednesday. The mercury on Thursday could range from 10 to 16 degrees in northern Taiwan, while southern Taiwan is likely to see 11-19 degree weather. The chill is likely to be strongest between Friday and Sunday, when lows countrywide could hover at 9-12 degrees, forecasters said. Northern and eastern Taiwan will also see rain, while other parts of the country will have cloudy to sunny skies, the bureau said. The cold weather should ease up next Tuesday, just in time for New Year's Eve, when daytime lows are expected to hover between 13 and 16 degrees, it said. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
