Taipei, Dec. 28 (CNA) The first enterprise to move into the Yilan division of the Hsinchu Science Park, nicknamed Taiwan's Silicon Valley, kicked off work Saturday to build an operations center at the new science park in northeastern Taiwan. The New Taipei-headquartered OMNI Calibration Laboratory Ltd. held a ground breaking ceremony to mark the launch of construction of a planned "mobile laboratory" at the science park. Yilan Magistrate Lin Tsung-hsien and Hsinchu park administration officials jointly hosted the ceremony along with OMNI executives. "The first egg (at the park) has hatched at last. I hope there will be more eggs hatching afterward," Lin said as he addressed the event. He expressed his wish that OMNI Calibration Laboratory will attract more other local and foreign companies in related industrial sectors to move into the Yilan Science Park. In 2004, the administration of the government-run Hsinchu Science Park selected an old airport in Yilan City as the construction site for its planned Yilan division. Under the expansion project, the eastern Taiwan base, covering 71 hectares, will be developed into Taiwan's first communications technology service-oriented industrial park. OMNI Calibration Laboratory signed an agreement with the Hsinchu park administration in April this year to move into the park. (By Worthy Shen and Elizabeth Hsu)
