HAGATNA, Guam (AP) -- A Guam lawmaker has introduced a bill to prevent murderers from getting inheritances from the people they kill.

Pacific Daily News reported Monday (http://bit.ly/1kW5dmN ) that territorial Sen. Frank Aguon says the bill is in response to a recent increase in criminal activity in Guam.

He says it's disheartening that some people resort to murder to gain wealth from people they stand to benefit from.

Allan Aloan Agababa is awaiting trial on aggravated murder charges stemming from the August death of his mother. Prosecutors say Agababa killed Shelly June Bernstein, then inquired about her death benefits hours after she was killed.

Agababa's lawyer told the court at a recent hearing that he was waiting for discovery documents from the government before the case goes to trial.
