Taipei, Jan. 3 (CNA) After undergoing successful surgery to repair a massive split down its side, the Rubber Duck returned good as new to greet excited crowds at Keelung Port Friday morning.

The giant inflatable art piece, which spent two days in recovery after suddenly bursting Tuesday afternoon, was ready for display by 10:30 a.m. after being led into the port by towboat.

Enthusiastic crowds were already gathered, including a group of kindergarteners who shouted in unison: "Welcome, Rubber Duck!"

Keelung City Council speaker Huang Ching-tai, who is in charge of the display, said the exhibition is able to continue thanks to round-the-clock work by the Rubber Duck's manufacturer to fix the eight-meter-long rupture over the past two days.

The success represents the perseverance of people from the port city, he said.

The 18-meter-tall duck received a few upgrades while it was under the knife, as well.

To prevent the duck from bursting due to temperature fluctuations, the manufacturer has opened two more holes in the back of the sculpture and installed an extra exhaust fan inside to help adjust internal pressure, Huang said.

The Keelung exhibition, which began Dec. 21, is scheduled to run through Feb. 28.
