Kao Kung-lien, vice chairman and secretary general of Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), has officially tendered his resignation and was reported to leave on February 6.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Kao had submitted his resignation first time right after then-Chairman Jiang Bing-kun left his position. Kao was urged to stay on by incumbent Chairman Lin Join-sane for several times.

Kao was rumored to leave because of disagreement with Lin. Lin denied the rumor, saying both get along very well at work. Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Chairman Wang Yu-chi also made clear that the SEF has been operating smoothly in the past year, and Kao is leaving for other reason.

Taiwan's Office of the President said that President Ma Ying-jeou has talked to Kao and accepted his request to resign, but the successor has yet to be nailed down.
