Taipei, Jan. 10 (CNA) Examination Yuan member Huang Jun-ying died of lung cancer at Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital in southern Taiwan Friday at the age of 72. Huang, a former vice president of I-Shou University and dean of National Sun Yat-sen University's College of Management, had been battling his affliction for more than two years, one of his friends said.

He had been receiving treatment at the Kaohsiung hospital over the past two months and was discharged from the hospital just a few days ago, his friend said.

Huang took a fall at his home early Friday and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, but died shortly afterward.

Doctors at the hospital said Huang died of lung adenocarcinoma.

Huang, who had a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Iowa, represented the Kuomintang in the Kaohsiung mayoral race in 2002 and 2006. He lost both bids, as the southern port city has traditionally been a stronghold of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party. (By Cheng Chi-feng and Sofia Wu)
