NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks are opening higher on Wall Street as the market turns positive after its worst day in two months.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 35 points, or 0.2 percent, at 16,292 after the first few minutes of trading Tuesday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up four points, or 0.3 percent, at 1,823. The Nasdaq composite rose 18 points, or 0.5 percent, to 4,131.

The market has gotten off to a weak start this year. The Dow has only risen twice in 2014 and is down 1.8 percent for the year.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.85 percent from 2.83 percent the day before.
