SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -- Chile's Supreme Court says construction can go ahead on the 740-megawatt Punta Alcalde thermoelectric plant.

The court ruling Friday overturns a lower court decision to annul the construction permit for the $1.4 billion project by the European company Endesa. Opponents of the plant cited environmental concerns.

The Supreme Court ruling cannot be appealed.
