Chinese cyclists arrive in Taiwan for round-the-island ride

Taipei, Jan. 18 (CNA) A Chinese cyclist who has ridden across Tibet and Xinjiang arrived in Taiwan with members of his club on Saturday for a round-the-island tour. Shortly after their arrival in Taoyuan, Jin Yonggang and seven members of a Yunnan bike club, which he founded, visited a Taoyuan association comprised of people from Yunnan Province in southwestern China. Lee Shao-wei, chief of Taoyuan County's tourism bureau, met with Jin's group later to wish them a good trip and festive experience as the Lunar New Year approaches. Since 2003, Jin has gone on cycling tours of Tibet , Xinjiang and Southeast Asian countries. His club is composed mostly of professors, civil servants and doctors. Five of the eight group members currently in Taiwan are doctors or professors from Kunming Medical University. Jin's group will start the 12-day tour from Kuandu in Taipei on Jan. 21 and will ride to Taoyuan, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Taitung, Hualien, Yilan before returning to Taipei.
