Japanese budget airline launches Osaka-Kaohsiung service

Kaohsiung, Jan. 18 (CNA) Peach Aviation, a Japanese budget carrier, made its inaugural flight on the Osaka-Kaohsiung route Saturday, launching a daily service between the two cities. Peach Aviation CEO Shinichi Inoue said Kaohsiung has warm and comfortable weather in winter, which is suitable for travel, and the airline expects to offer more flights to Kaohsiung by the end of 2015. Currently, it is operating one daily flight between Kaohsiung and Japanese city of Osaka, with ticket prices ranging between NT$3,080 (US$102) and NT$12, 000. The Kaohsiung City government said that the launch of the Osaka-Kaohsiung route is expected to bring around 60,000 foreign visitors per year to the southern Taiwan city, creating annual tourism revenue of NT$1.8 billion. In addition, it said, the direct flight service will promote exchanges between the two cities. Hsu Chuan-sheng, director of the Kaohsiung's Tourism Bureau, said the new service is expected to help increase passenger volume at Kaohsiung International Airport. Some 3.22 million tourists arrived in Taiwan via the Kaohsiung airport last year.
