Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper warmly greeted in Israel; to address parliament

JERUSALEM (AP) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warmly greeted Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and thanked him for his support of the Jewish state.

Harper is on a four-day visit during which he will address Israel's parliament and meet with Israeli officials. He is also set to go the West Bank and meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Canada is staunch ally of Israel. In welcoming remarks, Netanyahu praised Harper for "fighting terrorism" and for standing against anti-Semitism as well as his position on Iran and on peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Harper said he was "delighted" to be in Israel and said he will save his comments for his address on Monday.

Harper is visiting with a large delegation of officials and business executives.
