ISTANBUL (AP) -- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is blasting the Syrian foreign minister for alleging that Turkey had supported terrorists in Syria.

Walid al-Moallem made the allegation in a heated speech at the opening of a Syria peace conference in Montreux, Switzerland, on Wednesday.

On Friday, Erdogan denied that Turkey had ever trained terrorists to fight in Syria. He added: "That is your job. That is Syria's job." He called al-Moallem "vile" for saying that.

He said that Assad had committed crimes against humanity and should give up power, adding that he hoped the talks in Switzerland would achieve peace. He said: "Our wish is that an urgent solution is found for Syria."
