Taipei, Jan. 25 (CNA) A truck crashed into the main gate of the Presidential Office building early Saturday but caused little damage. Police said they suspect the act was intentional. The 41-year-old driver, who has been hospitalized after sustaining multiple injuries in the crash, is under investigation for allegedly endangering public safety, police said. The Presidential Office has heightened its security alert following the incident, office deputy spokeswoman Ma Wei-kuo said in a news conference. The crash caused only very limited damage to the Presidential Office building because sentries had quickly had a security door rolled down before the truck hit, she said. President Ma Ying-jeou, who is currently in Africa on a diplomatic tour, has been informed of the situation, she said, adding that the president's trip will not be affected.
