Taipei, Jan. 26 (CNA) The National Immigration Agency (NIA) is encouraging more foreign nationals and spouses living in Taiwan to take advantage of a multilingual hotline service launched earlier this year, to help improve their quality of life. The new service, a consolidation of two hotlines for foreign spouses and foreigners in Taiwan, is part of NIA efforts to enhance service quality and improve efficiency. A group of new immigrants are manning the hotlines, providing consultations in seven language, including Mandarin, English, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai and Cambodian, according to the NIA. Since the hotline began operating Jan. 1, staff have offered consultations in a wide range of fields, including visa issues and finding temporary accommodation for pets while away, the NIA said. NIA Director-General Hsieh Li-kung, who visited the call center in Kaohsiung, said the hotline hosts are highly qualified professionals versed in law, education and interpretation. The hotline service -- 0800-024-111 -- provides a 24-hour service every day of the year, the NIA said. (By Liu Chien-pang and Maia Huang)
