Taipei, Jan. 28 (CNA) The Taipei city government is planning to promote a certification system for certain lines of work that add attractiveness to the capital, the head of the city's Department of Labor said Tuesday. Labor Commissioner Chen Yeh-shin said his department has drafted guidelines on recognizing special professional skills and in accordance with Taipei's development needs, the city will first promote certification for coffee specialists, or baristas. There are hundreds of coffee shops in Taipei, many of which serve freshly ground and brewed coffee from their locations in neighborhood alleyways. Skill is required in every step in the making of a good cup of coffee, from the selecting and roasting of coffee beans to the brewing of the drink. The Department of Labor said it hopes the certification for baristas and other skilled professionals will help businesses and the general public know more about them and emulate them, which it hopes will result in an environment conducive to the development of high quality skills.
