LONDON (AP) -- England has dropped Chris Ashton for Saturday's Six Nations opener against France, with uncapped winger Jack Nowell called up as his replacement.

Scrumhalf Ben Youngs has also been overlooked by coach Stuart Lancaster, who on Tuesday named a 26-man squad for the match in Paris. Danny Care and Lee Dickson will be No. 9 when the team is announced on Thursday.

Center Luther Burrell, flyhalf George Ford and highly rated fullback Anthony Watson have been retained by Lancaster and could join Nowell in making their international debuts this weekend.

Lancaster says "the young players have really impressed and based on their club form and what they have done in training with us, they deserve their opportunity."
