MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) -- Bahrain's main opposition group says a court has disbanded a senior council of Shiite clerics.

There was no official confirmation of the Olamaa Islamic Council's suspension.

The statement by the Shiite opposition bloc al-Wefaq said that the verdict was issued Wednesday and amounts to a "war" against the Muslim sect in the Arab Gulf nation.

Bahrain has seen three years of unrest by a Shiite majority that says it is denied political rights by the country's Sunni rulers.
