BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) -- Brazil's Health Ministry says a third group of Cuban doctors has started arriving to work in impoverished areas where physicians and medical services are scarce.

The ministry says that 2,000 doctors will arrive by the end of the week. The first 125 arrived Tuesday night in the northeastern city of Fortaleza.

They are part of the "More Doctors" program the government launched last year and which has so far has attracted more than 5,000 Cuban doctors.

Doctors from Brazil and other countries also take part in the program.

The government hopes that by the end of March, 13,000 doctors will join the program and work for three years, earning 10,000 reals ($4,200) a month.
