14 hospitalized after freeway multiple-vehicle collision

Taipei, Jan. 31 (CNA) Fourteen persons were rushed to hospitals for treatment after a multiple-vehicle collision in the Nantou section of No.3 freeway in central Taiwan, police said Friday. Two of the 14 injured in the accident, which involved five cars, are still in critical condition, police said. The two, a 52-year-old mother and her 25-year-old daughter are receiving treatment in a hospital in Changhua County. Police said drivers' failure to keep a safe distance amid the heavy traffic was to blame for the accident. It's estimated the around 2.5 vehicles of all kinds traveled through the nation's freeways Friday, the first day of lunar new year.
