CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) -- Victor Matfield is returning to top-level rugby after more than two years in retirement and is available again for the Springboks.

The Bulls Super Rugby team announced the 36-year-old Matfield's playing return on Friday, saying it offered him a contract for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, which "he has gladly accepted."

Matfield will also attempt to represent the Springboks again having played 110 tests for his country before retiring after the 2011 World Cup.

The Bulls say Matfield "still harbors dreams of representing the Springboks" while South Africa coach Heyneke Meyer welcomed the second-rower's return in a statement.

Meyer says Matfield "was not given any guarantees about Springbok selection. If he can show he still has what it takes to be a Springbok, he will be considered."
