BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) -- Colombian police say they've caught a 78-year-old Spaniard trying to smuggle cocaine out of the country in his belly.

A police news release issued Wednesday says that airport police in Bogota noted that Jose Molla Martinez seemed nervous as he waited to board a flight to Barcelona. It says he agreed to an x-ray which detected capsules of cocaine in his intestine, and they contained almost a pound (400 grams) of the drug.

He faces a possible eight years in prison if convicted of drug trafficking.

Police say he's the oldest foreigner caught as a drug mule, though an 82-year-old Colombian was arrested a decade ago.

Police delayed announcing Friday's arrest until a court confirmed the charges.
