Taipei, Feb. 7 (CNA) The consolidated sales of Largan Precision Co., the world's largest handset camera lens supplier, fell dramatically in January from the previous month, but the company said the result was in line with expectations. The company had consolidated sales in January of NT$2.43 billion (US$80.02 million), down 23.96 percent from record-breaking monthly sales of NT$3.19 billion in December, but 8 percent higher than in January 2013. Largan attributed the month-on-month slide to the industry's typically slow first quarter, and it said sales would remain weak in February because of the working days lost to the Lunar New Year holiday at the beginning of the month. It expected to return to a growth path in March but was not sure how many orders it would receive. Camera modules that can take pictures of at least 8 megapixels accounted for 30-40 percent of the company's total shipments of mobile phone camera lenses in January, while 5 megapixel lenses accounted for 20-30 percent of the total. The balance of the company's January sales were made up of 10-megapixel, 2-megapixel and 3-megapixel camera products, according to a company spokesman. The spokesman said the company began to ship products that can take pictures of at least 10 megapixels last year, and though their share remained small at present, it would likely increase this year following the launch of new mobile phone models.
