Magnitude 4.0 earthquake strikes Taipei

Taipei, Feb. 12 (CNA) A magnitude 4.0 earthquake jolted northern Taiwan at 12:31 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau. The earthquake's epicenter was located downtown Taipei, some 11.8 kilometers north of Taipei City Hall at a depth of 6.3 km, bureau officials said. The strongest tremor, with an intensity of 4, was felt in the Yangmingshan National Park in Taipei, while an intensity-3 tremor was felt in several areas in New Taipei City and Taoyuan County. The intensity measures the actual strength of shaking in a particular location. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
