BAGHDAD (AP) -- Iraqi police say a car bomb in eastern Baghdad has killed at least 10 people.

A police officer says the explosives-laden car went off Monday night as it was parked near a parking lot in a commercial area in the Shiite neighborhood of Ur.

He added that 23 other people were wounded in that blast.

A medical official confirmed the causality figures. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.

Iraq is experiencing a resurge in violence to levels not seen since the worst of the country's sectarian bloodletting began to subside in 2007. The nation saw the highest death toll last year with 8,868 people killed, according to United Nations figures.
