Taipei, Feb. 19 (CNA) Taipei City won an iF Communication Design Award in Germany, with its submissions of a 7-minute film, which showcases the capital's competitiveness, and a book that shows its contemporary designs, the city's cultural department said Wednesday. Taipei, which was designated the 2016 World Design Capital late last year, will receive the latest award at a ceremony in Munich on Feb. 28, according to the city's Department of Cultural Affairs. The film that was submitted features interviews with 22 prominent figures and views of 47 sites that highlight the city's competitiveness. It was conceptualized and produced by Grass Jelly, a renowned image and music video studio based in Taiwan. The book, presented in five volumes, was stitched together in the traditional dragon-scale mounting style and includes calligraphy, traditional and contemporary paintings, and design maps. The two submissions, along with other award-winning products, will be displayed in an online exhibition later this month and at an iF design exhibition in Hamburg in March. They will also be featured in an official almanac to be published in April by the iF design award organizers. Established in 1953 in Germany, the iF design award is one of the most prestigious in the world of design. This year, there were more than 3,200 submissions from all over the world, competing in 17 categories. They were evaluated based on such criteria as design, quality, finish, choice of materials, degree of innovation and safety. The iF design award is Taipei's third such recognition in less than a year, after winning the 2016 World Design Capital designation and a Red Dot Design communication design award in 2013.
