DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) -- Buckingham Palace says Britain's Prince Charles is extending a Middle East trip to include stops in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

The Prince of Wales will briefly visit the Western-allied Gulf nations Friday. He earlier in the week visited nearby Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The palace says Charles will meet the Abu Dhabi crown prince in the UAE. His half brother, the Emirati president, suffered a stroke last month.

Charles will also meet Bahrain's king and crown prince. The small island nation has been roiled by three years of unrest by opposition demonstrators demanding greater political rights from the ruling monarchy.

The palace says the visits reflect Britain's long relationships with the two countries and the British royals' connections to their ruling families.
