Taipei, March 2 (CNA) Premier Jiang Yi-huah will hold a Cabinet meeting March 9 to welcome new members following a reshuffle, during which he will stress key administrative goals for the coming year, Executive Yuan spokesman Sun Lih-chyun said Sunday. The meeting will begin with Jiang making remarks about his expectations for his Cabinet, followed by a discussion session for the existing and new members in which they will be able to share their experiences and make further suggestions to the government, Sun said. The meeting can be seen as a move to "perform a task with full vigor and urgency" because it will take place on the first weekend after a handover ceremony for new Cabinet members scheduled to be held in the coming week, he said. The Cabinet unexpectedly announced a personnel reshuffle Feb. 26 that will bring new faces to six positions, including the interior minister. Cabinet Secretary-General Chen Wei-zen was named to the Ministry of the Interior's top post, taking the place of Lee Hong-yuan, who was seen as vulnerable because he did not get along well with Jiang and ended up quitting Feb. 25. The key criticism of the reshuffle is its rushed timing, which could be the result of a political conspiracy to purge Jiang's dissidents from the ruling Kuomintang (KMT), as well as dealing a blow to the Legislative Yuan by reorganizing the Cabinet substantially after the new legislative session begins, according to an editorial published Sunday by the China Times, a local daily.
