PSG beats Marseille 2-0 in French league

PARIS (AP) -- Paris Saint-Germain built an eight-point lead over Monaco at the top of the French league by defeating Marseille 2-0 on Sunday.

Brazilian leftback Maxwell took a pass from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score with a low strike in the 50th minute.

Edinson Cavani doubled the lead by heading a cross from Gregory Van der Wiel into the bottom corner in the 79th. The Uruguay forward was playing his first match since recovering from a thigh injury and replaced PSG winger Ezequiel Lavezzi in the 69th.

Marseille stayed fifth in the league, six points behind Lille in third place.

Elsewhere, Lille won 3-2 at Ajaccio and Lyon drew 0-0 with Montpellier.
