SANAA, Yemen (AP) -- Yemeni security and military officials say that an American drone strike has killed three members of al-Qaida in the northern part of the country.

Officials said the attack killed local al-Qaida leader Ali Saleh Juraim and two others while they were traveling by car in the northwest province of al-Jawf on Wednesday.

This is the third US drone attack in less than a week, the officials say, speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to speak to the press.

Yemen's branch of al-Qaida is considered to be the most dangerous in the world, and Yemeni security forces launch intermittent attacks on the group. Al-Qaida responds with attacks and assassinations.

The U.S. routinely targets al-Qaida in drone strikes, often hitting suspects in vehicles, but doesn't comment on each attack.
