ARE, Sweden (AP) -- Olympic champion Tina Maze took the lead after the opening run of a World Cup giant slalom on Thursday.

The Slovenian skier raced down the course 1 minute, 12.76 seconds. Nadia Fanchini of Italy was second, and Lara Gut of Switzerland was third.

The second leg was scheduled for later Thursday.

The 30-year-old Maze won two gold medals at the Sochi Olympics. Besides winning the giant slalom, she tied for first in the downhill with Dominique Gisin.
