Taipei, March 9 (CNA) TransAsia Airways, one of Taiwan's smaller carriers, announced that it is to double its flight services to the Japanese city of Osaka in the wake of increasing interest in travel to the city. "Osaka is one of the favorite destinations for Taiwanese visitors to Japan," said airline spokeswoman Kao Chi-hua. Citing a recent survey by travel website, the airline said Osaka is behind only Tokyo as the second-most popular travel destination among Taiwanese tourists traveling overseas. Travel momentum to Osaka has been on a steady rise, TransAsia said, adding that according to the Japan Tourism Agency, one in five foreign visitors to Japan in 2012 would visit Osaka. Starting April 10, the airline will offer two round-trip flights per day between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Japan's Kansai International Airport, it said. TransAsia's Taoyuan-Osaka service, which started in 2012, was the carrier's first regular passenger service to Japan. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
