NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) -- Yiorgos Lakkotrypis will stay as Cyprus' energy minister after the country's president opted against a wide-ranging reshuffle to his Cabinet.

Bailed-out Cyprus, one of 18 European Union countries that uses the euro,?sees newly found offshore gas reserves as an economic boon, elevating the importance of the energy portfolio.

President Nicos Anastasiades has replaced only three of 11 ministers in Wednesday's reshuffle.

All ministers had submitted their resignations after the center-right Democratic Party-- or DIKO -- voted last month to pull its four ministers in protest at Anastasiades' handling of renewed talks to unify the ethnically split country.

DIKO member Lakkotrypis quit the party after disagreeing with the vote. But Anastasiades replaced the education defense and health ministers who hail from DIKO, even though they quit the party too.
