Aberdeen ends 19-year wait for trophy by winning Scottish League Cup on penalties

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) -- Aberdeen captured its first major trophy in 19 years by beating Caledonian Thistle in a penalty shootout to win the Scottish League Cup.

The final went to spot kicks after finishing 0-0 after extra time at Celtic Park, which hosted the match as Hampden Park is under development.

Adam Rooney sealed victory for Aberdeen in the shootout after Billy McKay had an effort saved and Greg Tansey shot over the bar for Caledonian.

Aberdeen is also in the Scottish Cup semifinals.
