Tigerair Taiwan recruiting 180 personnel in Taiwan

Tigerair Taiwan, a budget joint venture between Taiwan's China Airlines and Singapore's Tiger Airways, is recruiting personnel to fill 180 job positions as it prepares to launch in November. The 180 positions include 88 flight attendants, as well as pilots and ground staff, according to a Tigerair Taiwan spokesperson. Flight attendants are being offered monthly pay of over NT$50,000 (US$1,639) while pilots and ground staff will also receive competitive salaries.

The recruitment process began Friday, and all positions are expected to be filled by June. Those interested in working for Tigerair Taiwan are encouraged to visit the website yes123 to sign up during the application period, which runs until April 13.

CAL and Tiger Airways announced their joint venture to set up Tigerair Taiwan In December, planning to tap into the fast growing budget airline business in Asia. CAL holds a 90 percent stake in the new carrier with its investment of NT$1.8 billion (US$59 million) out of a total capitalization of NT$2 billion.

In its initial phase of operation Tigerair Taiwan will offer flights between Taiwan and destinations in Northeast and Southeast Asia.

In a separate development, V Air, a low-cost subsidiary of Taiwan's TransAsia Airways, is scheduled to begin operations in September and expects to start showing a profit by next year. TransAsia is Taiwan’s oldest continually operating airline with a history of more than 63 years of service to travelers on the island.
