SAO PAULO (AP) -- Flamengo scored in stoppage time to draw 1-1 with Vasco da Gama on Sunday and win the Rio de Janeiro state championship.

Midfielder Marcio Araujo scored the equalizer in the first minute of injury time to give Flamengo its fifth Rio state title in the last eight years, and first since 2011.

Flamengo had the tiebreak advantage because it had the competition's best campaign entering the final. The teams also drew 1-1 in the first leg last week.

Vasco da Gama, seeking its first state title since 2003, opened the scoring at the packed Maracana with a penalty kick goal by midfielder Douglas in the 76th.

In the Sao Paulo state championship, Ituano stunned Santos to win its first significant title after winning a penalty shootout 7-6.
