Majority of Taiwanese want their children to study abroad: poll

Taipei, April 20 (CNA) Sixty-eight percent of parents in Taiwan are thinking about sending their children to colleges overseas, a survey by HSBC Group showed Sunday. On a multiple choice questionnaire, 60 percent of the Taiwanese respondents picked the United States as their top destination, while 38 percent said they would send their children to colleges in the United Kingdom. Thirty-eight percent chose Germany and 36 percent opted for Japan, citing its proximity to and strong cultural influence on Taiwan. Taiwanese parents were among the 4,500-plus respondents in 15 markets covered in the survey on parents' views and preparations for their children's education. (By Constant Wu and Scully Hsiao)
