Presidential Office spokesperson Garfie Li said Thursday that President Ma Ying-jeou has instructed Presidential Secretary-General Timothy Yang to contact DPP Secretary-General Lin Hsi-yau and ask him to invite party Chairman Su Tseng-chang to the Presidential Building to discuss the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant issue.

Li pointed out that although Su told reporters on April 21 that he would like to meet the president, as of April 23 the DPP had not attempted to contact the government to make any arrangements. Thus Ma requested that Timothy Yang contact Lin Hsi-yau to issue a formal invitation to Su to meet with him.

Li said the president is always willing to discuss national policy with opposition leaders, hopefully with no pre-conditions and no presuppositions. She said the purpose of such a meeting would be a frank exchange of views in order to seek solutions to critical problems plaguing the country.
