BERN, Switzerland (AP) -- France and Switzerland have withdrawn from bidding for 2020 European Championship matches to be staged in 13 countries.

French and Swiss football federation officials say it is too soon to repeat as host nations.

France will host Euro 2016 and Switzerland shared Euro 2008 with neighboring Austria.

Last September, France offered Lyon and Switzerland proposed Basel when 32 UEFA members expressed interest.

At least 20 are expected to meet Friday's deadline, including past hosts England, Germany and Italy, plus newcomers Azerbaijan and Romania.

Euro 2012 co-host Poland backed out this week, following the Czech Republic, Croatia, Finland and Portugal.

UEFA will confirm candidates on Saturday, and choose hosts at a Sept. 19 executive committee meeting.

Istanbul is favored to receive the final and both semifinals.
