Taipei, April 28 (CNA) Premier Jiang Yi-huah will hold a press conference Monday to explain the administration's policy on the fourth nuclear power plant, a day after the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) announced a decision to "mothball" the nearly completed project. News about the news conference was announced Monday morning, after the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party called on the premier to offer clarification on the KMT decision, which was released to the media by party spokesman Fan Chiang Tai-chi Sunday evening. Jiang will hold the press conference at 10 a.m., a hour after the opening of the local stock market. The Taiwan Stock Exchange's main index opened 93.98 points lower Monday at 8,680.14, following a loss of 171 points, or 1.91 percent, on Friday due in part to the uncertainty surrounding the fate of the fourth nuclear power plant. The opposition party and anti-nuclear groups have increased their pressure since earlier this month on the administration and have demanded the project be scrapped altogether.
