Taipei, April 28 (CNA) Taiwan-based Web portal PChome Online Inc. is hoping to more than double the products available on its e-commerce platform in the United States this year as the company enters the online consumer-to-consumer (C2C) market in North America. PChome, which broke into the U.S. online business-to-consumer (B2C) two years ago, plans to increase the number of products from the current 650,000 items to more than 1.4 million items by year-end, PChome Chairman Jan Hung-tze said Monday during a conference call with Taiwanese media. Launched a day earlier in San Jose, PChome's C2C platform will initially focus on products such as female apparel and food, with new registered users allowed to trade on the C2C platform for free during a promotional period to boost the site's customer base, Jan said. PChome will invest US$4 million in the C2C platform in its first stage of operations, hoping to increase the contribution of its U.S. online retail operation to more than the current 1 percent of the PChome Group's global revenues. According to U.S. Department of Commerce statistics, U.S. online retail sales totaled US$69.2 billion in the fourth quarter of 2013, an increase of about 16 percent over the same quarter in 2012.
