President Ma resumes public activities

Taipei, April 11 (CNA) President Ma Yin-jeou, who disappeared from public sight following the death of his mother, resumed his public activities Sunday, attending a Buddhist ceremony in Taipei to mark Mother's Day. Speaking at the ceremony, held at the Ketagalan Boulevard in front of the Presidential Office to raise public awareness about the debt owed to mothers, Ma said this is the first Mother's Day he celebrated without his mother in more than 64 years. Ma's mother, Chin Hou-hsiu, died from multiple organ failure on May 2 at the age of 91 and was cremated May 5, following a private funeral attended by family members.
