TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) -- Taiwanese media say three people were killed and several injured when a man stabbed people at random on a subway train in the capital, Taipei.

The official Central News Agency says the attack occurred at about 4 p.m. Wednesday aboard a subway car on the city's southwestern Banqiao line.

Photos showed the floor of the car splattered with blood and strewn with backpacks and other items.

CNA listed the dead as a 47-year-old woman and two men aged 20 and 30.

Commercial cable news station TVBS and other stations listed 16 people as injured. It said the attacker appeared to be a 21-year-old male who reeked of alcohol and wielded a 10 centimeter-long (3 inch-long) knife.

They said the man was apprehended and being questioned by police.
