SCARPERIA, Italy (AP) -- Aiming to extend his perfect start, Marc Marquez took his sixth straight MotoGP pole position this season by leading qualifying Saturday for the Italian Grand Prix.

The Spanish rider with Repsol Honda clocked 1 minute, 47.270 seconds on the Mugello circuit for his seventh consecutive pole overall, including the final race of last season.

Marquez has also won the opening six races of the year.

Andrea Iannone of Pramac Racing and Jorge Lorenzo of Movistar Yamaha completed the front row. Iannone finished 0.180 seconds behind and Lorenzo was 0.251 back.

Dani Pedrosa was fourth and seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi qualified 10th.

American rider Nicky Hayden pulled out before qualifying due to wrist pain and will undergo surgery.

Alex Rins of Estrella Galicia Honda took the Moto3 pole in 1:56.999.
