WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has nominated a big-dollar political fundraiser for the president and the chief executive of an economic and political advisory firm, Jane Hartley, to be the U.S. ambassador to France.

Hartley is the head of Observatory Group and raised more than $500,000 for Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.

If confirmed by the Senate, she would replace Charles Rivkin. He became assistant secretary of state for economic and business affairs in February.

The White House announcement came Friday as Obama was in France for the 70th anniversary of D-Day

Hartley is married to investment banker Ralph Schlosstein. Both are longtime donors to the Democratic Party and to Democratic candidates.
